GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Some days it's easier than others to toe the line. Sure, when the sun's shining and you win $100 in free groceries as the store's 1,000th shopper and a stranger comes up and tells you that you look exactly like a young Audrey Hepburn, well, shoot - who's going to frown on a day like that?
Then again, when you step on the scale and it's two pounds heavy even though you've been dieting for a month or as you stand by helplessly and watch your child be treated unfairly or worse, witness the sad, sudden loss of a friend or loved one; well, those are the days that make it tough to --you know, hang tough. Sigh.
It is in those times of need, trouble and even desperation that our character matters most and shines brightest. Believing in the greater good, the fortitude of resilience and the power of prayer ... these are the foundations on which strength and faith firmly rest. And on those days when you feel your core getting a little wobbly, the best way to bolster it is to be someone else's.
R. Alleluia. Glory in his holy name; rejoice, O hearts that seek the LORD! Look to the LORD in his strength; seek to serve him constantly. Alleluia - Jn 10:27 - My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord. I know them, and they follow me.
