PS 96: The LORD comes, he comes to rule the earth. He shall rule the world with justice and the peoples with his constancy. Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice! Jn 1:14a, 12a The Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us. To those who accepted him he gave power to become the children of God.

We all knew it was coming.

It does every December 31st, after all. And so, here we are: New Year's Eve, y'all.

How will you celebrate? Pork and sauerkraut? Cigars under the stars? Party at home? Dinner out? Watching the ball drop in the middle of Times Square? #Yikes #Agoraphobia #NotThisGirl

Some of you will make a resolution -- or 12. Most won't stick through mid-March. Look, as far as I'm concerned, if you're trying, you're succeeding. #DontGiveUp

Besides, the only resolution that really matters is treating the other humans well, Capisce?

Maybe some of you will sleep right through midnight. (Sounds good to me.)

A few might even choose to attend Mass/church services. #NewYearsIsAHolyDay

Some are hanging onto 2018 for the great things it brought. Others can't bid it a fast enough good riddance.

But however you feel about the year that was 2018, let's all look to the future with hope, promise, gratitude, joy, love, compassion, and peace.

I can't think of a better sentiment to share with everyone on the precipice of a New Year than the Prayer for Peace, written by St. Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Happy New Year, everyone! #Enjoy #Celebrate #Pray #GiveThanks #BeKind #HappyNewYear
