Be Somebody's Ugly Towel, Yo

As I stepped out of the tub this morning, I grabbed it.

That big, fluffy, brand spanking new maroon towel Kerry got for me recently...with all the best intentions, by the by. #ThanksForTryingHon

And, even though it wasn't my first samba with that sucker, I gave it another try.

Because I knew, from past experience, that I was about to wrap myself up in one of the biggest, prettiest and most useless bath towels ever known to mankind, yo.

That thing stinks...and I don't mean literally, I mean in terms of practicality.

I took a deep breath and extended the worthless piece of fabric across my shoulder blades...shuddering and patting; patting and shuddering.

Sure enough, I stayed wetter than the ham bone submerged at the bottom of a pot of soup, you dig?

"Oh how I LOVE being soaking, sopping, dripping wet on a chilly northeast Ohio morning!" SAID. NO. ONE. EVER.

Hmpf.

That's when I noticed it out of the corner of the eye I could keep pried open despite shivering and squinting as I hopped over to the baseboard heater.

It was that old, ugly lime green towel; streaked with not only bleach spots but also black hair dye from, er, I guess a guest? #ImReallyTotallyGray

I love that icky old thing. It's like the "Old Faithful" of towels in our house. It matches NOTHING. It's completely un-presentable for when company arrives.

It's faded and fraying around the edges. It likely predates our nearly 25-year marriage; no one is even sure where it came from?

And yet, that is the most absorbent, warm, soft towel you could possibly ever hope to envelop around yourself on a cool AM, a'ight?

So remember, just because a sight (or a human?) is lovely to behold on the outside doesn't mean it'll ultimately be what gives you warmth and comfort. Likewise, a seemingly unsightly or sour somethin' (or somebody?) might actually be the most reliable source of strength you'll ever want or need.

I may not be a supermodel, but I'm true blue. When it comes to my fam/peeps, I GOT YOU --- even when I or it ain't pretty -OK?

In a world full of superficial, surface beauty ... be someone's loyal, gorgeous-where-it-counts, old, ugly towel, Capsice?
