Sponsored by hbkcpa.com/consultants/james-dascenzo/ The other day, I had a little INXS concert in my kitchen. #ThanksAlexa I was singing and dancing around like nobody was watching. Unfortunately for us both; my teenage son was...and he was not exactly impressed. #ThinksImADork #BeggedMetoStop As I whipped up a batch of homemade tomato sauce to go with dinner, I was catapulted back to the late 1980s, when INXS was hotter than a Hemsworth brother, yo. #CutiePatooties I was particularly fond of lead singer Michael Hutchence, as were most teenage girls back in the day...and half of Hollywood's actresses and fashion's top supermodels, too, apparently, since he dated many of them and a few of his fellow musicians' wives. Seriously. #RockBadBoy Scoundrel that he was, I was completely enamored with him as a teen and as an adult was devastated by his odd and mysterious death in 1997. #RIPMichaelHutchence Anyway, I was recounting to my brother-in-law Kevin about how great a band they were, back in the day. He was like, "Pats, no they weren't." Wait, what? I thought EVERYBODY loved "One Thing," "Never Tear Us Apart," "What You Need," "Mystify" and "Need You Tonight" (et al) as much as I did and do? Hmpf. In an effort to prove to Kevin that Michael and co. were more than just cool riffs and his pretty face, I began delving into INXS lyrics to show how prolific and profound they were. Um, hard thud. Ouch. Okay, so Kevin may have been right about their prowess at wordsmithing; perhaps they weren't quite as brilliant as I remembered. But, just as I was about to throw in the 1980s headband and legwarmers, I remembered "Mediate." Sure, it was an Australian, white rock band attempting to rap but the video was the first one to implement the word card frenzy, so there! #INXSWereTrendsetters And Michael DID have a wonderful message hidden among all those seeming arbitrarily rhyming words: "Hallucinate...Desegregate...Mediate...Alleviate...Try not to hate...Love your mate...Don't suffocate on your own hate...Designate your love as fate..." Plus he looked darn good in those ripped up jeans, Capisce? #INXSRocked #TryNottoHate PS 25:4-5ab, 6 and 7bc, 8-9 R. (6a) Remember your mercies, O Lord. Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths, Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior. Remember that your compassion, O LORD, and your kindness are from of old. In your kindness remember me, because of your goodness, O LORD. Good and upright is the LORD; thus he shows sinners the way. He guides the humble to justice, he teaches the humble his way. Verse Before the Gospel Jl 2:12-13 Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart; for I am gracious and merciful.
