"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves."
WHEW! It's really important to remember this line from today's readings. At one point or another, sadly, each of us will have a broken heart. Dang it.
It could be a failed romantic relationship, a lost job, the passing of a loved one (human or of the four-legged variety!) or even enduring the pain of watching someone you care for hurt or suffer in some way. Bottom line is, REM was right all those years ago with their beautifully haunting ballad ... everybody hurts. But don't despair because He's there.
You know that best friend who grasps your hand when you need it most? Or the nice lady from church who brings dinner over when you just weren't up for making it? Or the coworker who offers you a ride when you're out of transportation options? These coincidences aren't coincidences. He sends help when we need it. We're not alone, after all. So, when you feel like you just can't take any more --hang in there; help and hope are on the way!
