GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY In one of my previous work lives (there've been a few), I ran the PR/Marketing and Foundation department of a small, sweet community hospital. Shout out to my peeps at Alliance Community Hospital. #missyaach Anyway, part of my responsibility there was Employee Engagement. I remember my most popular internal presentation ever: "The E Factor." It was all about creating company loyalty and employee satisfaction by empowering staff through positivism, encouragement, and respect. It all came down to one simple theory, really: The Golden Rule. It's so simple but powerful. Effortless yet of huge impact. The right answer in every situation. It's the bomb diggity, yo. And even though this is something we learned very early in life from our parents, grandparents, preschool teachers and um, Barney, I suppose --- we can all certainly use a little refresher every now and again. DO TO OTHERS WHATEVER YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU. Bam! Yep, the Golden Rule is so awesome, it really ought to be platinum. And on that note, I'll end as I did with "The E Factor" - please enjoy this sweet little video about you-know-what: vimeo.com/6288412 Ps 15:2-3a, 3bc-4ab, 5 R. (1b) He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord. He who walks blamelessly and does justice; who thinks the truth in his heart and slanders not with his tongue. Who harms not his fellow man, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor; By whom the reprobate is despised, while he honors those who fear the LORD. Who lends not his money at usury and accepts no bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be disturbed. Alleluia Jn 8:12 I am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever follows me will have the light of life. Gospel Mt 7:6, 12-14 Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces. "Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the Law and the Prophets..."

When my twins were little, they had a Mother Goose Story Teller; it was a goose that played stories on cassettes, and the mouth moved. Each story had a moral or two, usually turned into a little song. My favorite was "The Ugly Duckling", with one of the morals being, "Treat Others the Way That You Want To Be Treated." I have sung that song to my children, and students, countless times. One is never too young, or old, for the Golden Rule.
