Grateful Girl's Thought for the Day:
We've all heard them a gazillion times. You know, those infamous, trite sayings alluding to the inevitable end of life here on earth: Every day's a gift. Life is short. Time passes quickly. Stop and smell the roses. No one is promised tomorrow.

Typically, I'd offer a 'hmpf' here except that last night, I attended my cousin Pete's calling hours. I loved Pete. He was brilliant and funny and outspoken and a wonderful husband, dad, uncle, friend, teacher and mentor, as the hugely long lines at the funeral home proved beyond question.

Pete always made me laugh. Except when he was my Anatomy and Physiology teacher, when he made me want to cry; I digress. The truth is, the last time I saw Pete, I'd no idea that's what it would be. I'd have hugged him a little longer.

Alleluia Is 55:6 - Seek the LORD while he may be found; call him while he is near. Gospel Mt 7:21, 24-27 - Jesus said to his disciples: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven..."
