GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I love the television show "Friends." Totally one of my fave sitcoms, hands down. I can quote dialogue from every episode. All of them. Every single one.
A favorite scene of mine is in the very first episode when Rachel is trying to explain, in a phone conversation with her father, why she has run out on her wedding --- literally as he was about to walk her down the aisle. She's trying to convey that she was marrying for the wrong reasons; for others' expectations and not because she loved her groom. Here's the excerpt:
Rachel: Daddy! Daddy listen to me! It's like all my life everyone's told me, "You're a shoe! You're a shoe! You're a shoe!" Well, what if I don't want to be a shoe? What if I wanna be a purse or a hat? No I don't want you to buy me a hat, I'm saying I am a hat. It's a metaphor Daddy!
The thing about caring too much what others think or say about us is the risk we run of allowing it to alter our own thoughts and actions. Just because someone tells me, repeatedly and emphatically, that I'm not good at something which I know I do fairly well, doesn't make it true. I'm not boasting and I'm not fishing for compliments; believe me; I don't think I'm all that - not even "that." I'm simply saying that I love writing. I write everyday and I often get feedback from those who take something away from what I write.
So, I must not TOTALLY suck at it, right? #notlettingyoubreakmyspirit Believe in your own worth and value. The Man Upstairs does or you wouldn't be here, Capisce?
Who cares if some dude tells you you're a shoe every day. That's his opinion. Just turn on your heels and prove to him and the rest of the world that you're a beautiful, bright, fun, functional and fabulous hat and not some smelly old shoe.
The only one who can define you is that person staring back at you in the mirror every morning. And he/she is pretty terrific, yo. #believeinyourself
Psalm Ps 111:1-2, 3-4, 5-6 R. (2) How great are the works of the Lord! I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart in the company and assembly of the just. Great are the works of the LORD, exquisite in all their delights. Majesty and glory are his work, and his justice endures forever. He has won renown for his wondrous deeds; gracious and merciful is the LORD. He has given food to those who fear him; he will forever be mindful of his covenant. He has made known to his people the power of his works, giving them the inheritance of the nations. Alleluia See Jn 6:63c, 68c Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life, cyou have the words of everlasting life.
