GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It sounds like a cop out, really. That old idiom "This is going to hurt me more that it hurts you." Hmm.
Usually uttered by a parent to a child preceding a spanking or some other punishment, the saying typically generates a sense of false compassion. But sometimes, the sentiment is genuine.
Sacrifice comes in many forms: physical, emotional, financial. Givers have varied methods: anonymous, public, magnanimous, self-serving.
A true sacrifice comes from an earnest place; it is an act of selflessness. Think of the boss who works ridiculously long hours for the betterment of the staff; the coach who spends extra time training individual team members after practice; the Mom who stays up all night baking homemade cookies for the entire class because her child told her at 11PM it was needed the next day.
Guess what? Even though it may have hurt the giver more, dollars to donuts they received a huge return on that investment in the end. It feels great doing for others; we end up helping ourselves most of all.
Verse Before the Gospel - Hail to your, our King; you alone are compassionate with our errors. Hail to you, our King, obedient to the Father; you were led to your crucifixion like a gentle lamb to the slaughter.
