Sponsored by hbkcpa.com/consultants/john-j-fedorek/ The headlines are grim. More troubles with romaine lettuce causing e-coli outbreaks. It's terrifying for salad fanatics like me -- especially because lettuce is one of my main food sources. #DontJudge And people wonder why I eat iceberg. Yes, yes, I know they say it's got very little nutritional value compared with darker leafy greens. Must I remind you of the spinach e-coli outbreak that spanned 22 states last year? Again, I'll take the iceberg any day of the week, no matter how much people try to badmouth it to me. It's crunchy and it's yummy and it's my favorite so you salad how you like and I'll salad how I like, Capisce? #LeaveMeAndIcebergAlone The whole iceberg argument got me to thinking about Ernest Hemingway's iceberg principle. He's been on my mind since my recent visit to his Key West casa. I digress. Anyway, the iceberg principle was his minimalistic way of highlighting details rather than themes so the true meaning in a book or an article or a poem, etc. would be less obvious. Instead, it was hidden beneath the surface so the reader would have to ponder it. He'd be clear and direct and concise, yet just leave you a little nugget to chew on. Kinda like crunching your way through an iceberg salad, no? BOTTOM LINE: You don't have hit someone over the head to get them to see your point. Sometimes, a little subtlety goes a lot further. Just sayin'. See Lk 24:46, 26 R. Alleluia, alleluia. Christ had to suffer and to rise from the dead, and so enter into his glory. Jn 14:27-31a Jesus said to his disciples: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me."
