GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
It's funny, isn't it, how when times get a little rough, the people in your life can surprise you? Sure, there are those solid people who are there for you (and vice versa) no matter what, when, how or why. You know it, they know it and the American people know it. The "I've got your back" contingent. #Innercircle (See my sis at left.)
Yet, for whatever reason, it isn't uncommon for those of whom we don't expect it to offer us deeply unconditional, unrelenting and unwavering support in times of crisis. You know what I mean; that sorta "Out of the blue true to you" set of folks. Awesomeness!
And finally, there are the let-downers.
You know, the people you would have sworn would take a bullet in your defense but who are nowhere to be found when you need them most. Or worse, the ones who actually choose to kick you when you're down. #painful
Humans are curious. Most of us don't know how we'd truly react in a situation until staring it in the face. Sometimes perhaps we even surprise ourselves during times of challenge --- either positively or in a way that shames us.
I'm not finger-pointing. Heck, there are a multitude of scenarios which, if I found myself plopped into the center of one, I'm uncertain how I'd respond. I want to believe I have integrity and would do the right thing in any given situation. That's always my goal. But, how do I really know? I don't, for certain.
All I really, really know is:
-If you come after my kid or another member of my family; I will fight you with all I've got until I have no breath left in my body.
-If you're hurt, sick, scared or downtrodden and I can help in any way, I will.
-I respect everyone's right to their opinion and try hard not to judge others because it's hurtful and wrong and I dislike when it happens to me. That said, if you try to dis the Big Guy, the U.S. military or any of my peeps; we throwin' down, yo.
-If you put good out there, it has a remarkable way of finding its way back to you.
-If you don't like coffee, we can still be friends, but I'm keeping an eye on you. JK
So, here's to hoping for the best but expecting the worst. And being pleasantly surprised when someone you'd never have thought would do so rallies behind you when you need it most.
Bottom line: There are still a whole bunch of good people out there in the world; I am fortunate to know quite a few. Thanks to all my family and friends who love and support goofy, big-haired and generally dorkified little old me. I sure do appreciate it and am blessed beyond what I deserve.
Ps 112:1-2, 7-8, 9 R. (see 7c) The heart of the just one is firm, trusting in the Lord. or: R. Alleluia. Blessed the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commands. His posterity shall be mighty upon the earth; the upright generation shall be blessed. An evil report he shall not fear; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. His heart is steadfast; he shall not fear till he looks down upon his foes. Lavishly he gives to the poor; his generosity shall endure forever; his horn shall be exalted in glory. Alleluia See Eph 1:17-18 R. Alleluia, alleluia. May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our hearts, that we may know what is the hope that belongs to his call.
