Blondes, I Mean Boys, Really DO Have More Fun!

"It'll be horrible!" they said.

"You are so brave to do it!" they said.

"Girls are so much easier!" they said.

"It's going to be insane!" they said.

"You will get no sleep whatsoever; not a wink!" Okay, they got me on that one.

It's true, when my friends and family members heard that I'd offered ours as the host house for the annual boys swim/dive team poker night sleepover, they looked at me like I had worms crawling out of my skull.

My resemblance to Medusa not withstanding, I scoffed at them. #hmpf

Even though hosting 16 teenage boys for an evening of eating homemade mac & cheese and cocktail meatballs and pizzas and crackers and pretzels and chips and salsa and fruits and veggies and oh, I don't know, about 4 million cookies and brownies before they play games (card and video) and watch movies and entertain the gals who pop in intermittently ---all before rounding them up early the next day to ship them off to their annual, ritualistic blonde hair dye party--- did I mention this was all taking place after an out-of-town swim meet? Well, anyway, it's not for wimps, Capsice?

You have to love feeding people. CHECK.

You have to be able to relate to teenage boys. CHECK.

You gotta be cool to function on very little sleep. Um, hello? CHECK.

You have to love your kid more than life itself. CHECK, CHECK, CHECK.

Indeed, that nay-saying, warning and trying to scare me was all for not. Know why? These kids are phenomenal. Every last one of them. Loud? Sure. Silly? Hex yeah; that's why we get along so well. Boisterous? Um, there's a reason the word begins with "boy," ya dig? 

All I can say is, this group of gentlemen couldn't have been more polite, well-behaved, neat, sweet or lovely to me. And I mean that, from the bottom of my heart. You can crash our crib anytime, BHS Swim/Dive Boys - Mama K loves you all!

Just maybe a TEENY, TINY bit of sleep next time, yes? #boysrule
