Bread Alone, A Whole Lot of It --- Used to Just be a Light Snack

GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
I haven't eaten white bread since MTV ran actual videos as part of their standard operations. OK--maybe not that far back but still! It's been a good, long while.

It wasn't easy. It still isn't. I try to imagine my whole grain rice cakes as bread. Sometimes I put a dab of tomato sauce on them...just to faux it up all fancy like. Other times, I find myself dreaming of eating a roll from the old Italian Baking Company bigger than my head. Ah, sweet memories from my childhood.

But, you know, you get a little older and a little carb wiser and realize you can't just suck down an entire loaf of Italian bread by yourself anymore...or a Nachos Bell Grande...or a Big Mac with large fries and a chocolate shake, without some serious repercussions to your midsection. Eating like we did when we were 17 doesn't work 30 years later. Hmpf.

Oh well; good thing there are so many healthy options to bread and sweets and fast food these days, right? And so what if they taste like Styrofoam? Heck, there are lots more important things than enjoying the taste of the warm, steaming loaf of peasant bread you just made from scratch...like seeing the look of adulation on your teenage son's face as HE devours it down.

Or feeling good about yourself for showing a little restraint and not wolfing it down with a stick of butter melted across the top. Or actually enduring the hunger pangs of avoiding every carbohydrate between here and the Mississippi so you'll be able to fit into your skinny jeans.

Ugh, how I miss eating bread. #stupidcarbs Oh well, our day will come. Besides, we all know we can't just live on bread alone, anyway... #hangintherefellowbreadlovers

R. Alleluia. Remove from me the way of falsehood, and favor me with your law. The way of truth I have chosen; I have set your ordinances before me. R. Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord! or: R. Alleluia. Alleluia MT 4:4B  R. Alleluia, alleluia. One does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.
