But Really, Though, Don't Look Now...or Later, Either

Mk 4 ...Jesus began to teach by the sea...A very large crowd ...he said to them,"Hear this!  A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Other seed fell on rocky ground where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep. And when the sun rose, it was scorched and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it and it produced no grain. And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit. It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold."...And when he was alone, those present along with the Twelve questioned him about the parables. He answered them... The sower sows the word. These are the ones on the path where the word is sown. As soon as they hear, Satan comes at once  and takes away the word sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground who,  when they hear the word, receive it at once with joy. But they have no roots; they last only for a time. Then when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word,  they quickly fall away. Those sown among thorns are another sort. They are the people who hear the word, but worldly anxiety, the lure of riches,  and the craving for other things intrude and choke the word, and it bears no fruit. But those sown on rich soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold."

I remember it like it was yesterday.

Kerry and I were enjoying our last full day in Jamaica on our honeymoon by lying poolside at one of the Sandals resorts we were visiting. It was very near the one we chose to stay at in Montego Bay and our package afforded us the option to hotel hop.

It was a perfect, sunny day in the Caribbean and we were basking in it when suddenly my new husband looked over at me and said, "Honey, do not look down."

Of course I did exactly the opposite of what he suggested; not to defy him or anything - it was simply a reflex. "Why?" I said, glancing below us and immediately answering my own question.

"EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" I whispered to my groom, who was near hysterics laughing as he gave me a hug and teased, "I told you!"

"Blech," I sort of spat, trying to expunge the image of the nude octogenarian releasing all of his inhibitions --and his decades of nakedness-- to innocent passersby from my mind.

Talk about being collateral damage. #NobodyWantsToSeeThatGramps

Sometimes in life, you witness things you'd rather not. It could be a display of unfairness, prejudice, disrespect, cruelty, inappropriate behavior ... or you know, like a steaming plate of sauteed liver and eel topped with an over-easy egg, blue cheese, roasted grasshoppers, and dripping ketchup.

I can feel the chunks welling up in my throat right now. #Nasty

Listen, if it's important enough to warrant an outcry; make it! Don't stand by and let an injustice happen on your watch, yo.

But, if it's just something completely icky and yuckified ... well, just try really, really hard to listen to your significant other when they warn you NOT TO LOOK, Capisce?
