Fishes or Turkey Tomorrow? Your Call

If you're like me, you've seen "The Godfather" about seven billion times. Maybe eight.

What can I say? It's a classic. Puzzo, Coppola, Brando, Pacino, er, oh yeah, Caan, Duvall, Shire (but she's really a Coppola, yo). Fine, I like Italians -- what's this; your first day with me? Either way. The penultimate mafia family saga has been named one of the all-time best films in American cinema by...I don't know, everybody? And with good reason.

But, without quoting countless lines from one of my all-time fave flicks, which I've been known to do occasionally; I wanted to focus briefly on one particular scene. (Image courtesy: Google photos.)

This is the one where crime boss Michael, having had his army wipe out all his competition in one fell swoop as he baptized his infant nephew, hosts a little meeting with his bro-in-law a/k/a baby daddy Carlo.

Mike's ticked because he knows it's Carlo who was responsible for the gangland murder of his older brother Sonny several years earlier. Italians never forget...and sometimes, we hold a li'l grudge -  just sayin'. So Michael sits him down and demands a confession but Carlo ain't copping. Here's a summary of the dialogue:

Michael: You have to answer for Santino, Carlo...You fingered Sonny for the Barzini people...Come on. Don't be afraid, Carlo. Come on, you think I'd make my sister a widow? I'm Godfather to your son, Carlo...You're out of the Family business, that's your punishment...understand? Only don't tell me you're innocent. Because it insults my intelligence and makes me very angry. Now, who approached you? Tattaglia or Barzini?

Carlo: It was Barzini.

Michael: Good.

Michael goes on to snuff Carlo out like a tiny flick of random 4th of July sparkler spit. In any event, I share Michael's sentiment; not only about jerkface Carlo -- but it also describes how I feel when someone tells me they have no reason to be grateful on Thanksgiving...or generally.

ARE YOU SAYING THERE ISN'T ONE POSITIVE THING  IN YOUR LIFE? Something or someone for which you should look upward and thank Him RIGHT NOW ... and always? Of course there is. Please don't tell me there isn't because it insults my intelligence and makes me very angry.

So, please be grateful for your blessings. Otherwise, I'll call Michael; you might be sleeping with fishes instead of eating turkey tomorrow, Capisce?
