GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
You know that familiar movie plot of a crusty old curmudgeon who hates children and puppies and life in general...until some adorable little toddler steals his heart and turns him into Santa Claus and they all live happily ever after? Yeah ... life doesn't always imitate art. Hmpf.

We all know one. Or two or 57. Grump. Complainer. Cynic. Grouch. That certain someone who isn't happy unless he isn't happy, Capisce?

Sheesh. Life is so very short and fleeting; why traipse through it with a wrinkled forehead and angry sneer? I mean, unless you're Billy Idol. I digress.

The point is, we all know folks who are always angry, don't we? The guy who is always complaining; the gal who never feels well or cheerful; the woman who finds fault with everyone and everything under the sun; the dude who is convinced he's being stiffed, slighted, shorted or otherwise neglected by the very forces of nature. In other words, people whose hearts were encased in carbonite like Han Solo in the "Empire Strikes Back." Heavy, heavy sigh.

The worst thing to do with a grumbler? Treat him the way he treats others. That's what I said ---because, even though he deserves it, it won't help. Two means just make a whole lot of awful for all involved. Besides, look how much you despise that behavior; is it really a trait you want to pick up? Nah.

The only way to walk away from a grump with joy in your heart is if you put it there. Next time someone is completely over-the-top unbearable, give him a hug. Or at least a smile. Or a little happy wave. Tell him he's looking quite dapper; ask him if he's lost a few pounds. Best case, he softens. Worst case, he's stunned silent.

Either way, at least somebody ends up feeling happier --- aren't you glad it's you?

Ps 105:4-5, 6-7, 8-9 R. (8a) The Lord remembers his covenant for ever. Look to the LORD in his strength; seek to serve him constantly. Recall the wondrous deeds that he has wrought, his portents, and the judgments he has uttered. You descendants of Abraham, his servants, sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!  He, the LORD, is our God; throughout the earth his judgments prevail. He remembers forever his covenant which he made binding for a thousand generations – Which he entered into with Abraham and by his oath to Isaac. Verse Before the Gospel Ps 95:8 If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
