GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I usually don't pay a whole lot of attention to the GOOGLE doodle.

You know, that little graphic, typically animated in some way and commemorating a certain date or circumstance. National holidays, birthdays of historical figures, or current events often inspire it.

Today's is about Selena Quintanilla. The late singer and fashion designer wasn't born on this date, nor is it the date on which her young life was snuffed out tragically. But the Tejano singing sensation who won a Grammy, achieved commercial recording success on both Latino and American Pop charts, launched a clothing, makeup and accessories empire and won the hearts of millions of fans all by the young age of 23 is being honored by Google today.

She is legendary now because of the senseless was she was murdered by her cash-stealing "friend" and former manager...but to me she'll always be that beautiful young girl whose song "I Could Fall in Love" was a top hit on the radio as my then-new husband and I returned home from our honeymoon in early September 1995. I guess that's why I've always had this minor fascination with her; she reminds me about a very happy time in my life that was dotted by incredible sadness.

Ironic, really, considering the sweet little Latina dynamo was super sultry and saucy.
She seemed like a girl's girl and whole hootin' ball of fun. She was so filled with joy and effervescence and wild charisma; she could shake it with the best of 'em, you dig?

Selena was Jennifer Lopez before Jennifer Lopez was Jennifer Lopez, Capsice? In fact, J-Lo got her big break playing the title role in the autobiography about Selena's short life.

Funny that Selena's squiggle is prominent on the anniversary of my paternal Grandmother's birthday. She lived a much longer life than Selena but it doesn't mean I don't miss and grieve her still, too. I guess this date is a reminder of the frailty and preciousness of life.

So, here's to the concert going on in heaven today, starring Selena and attended by Giovanna. You go get it, Selena and Buon Compleanno, Nonnal Go hug someone you love, yo.

PS 19:2-3, 4-5  R. (2a) The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day pours out the word to day, and night to night imparts knowledge. R. The heavens proclaim the glory of God. Not a word nor a discourse whose voice is not heard; Through all the earth their voice resounds, and to the ends of the world, their message. R. The heavens proclaim the glory of God. Alleluia HEB 4:12  R. Alleluia, alleluia. The word of God is living and effective, able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.
