How Do You Do?

GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
We hear the expressions often. We've been hearing them all of our lives, actually. Heck, so did generations of folks before us. So much so, that many have become cliched, even passe:

DO AS YOU'RE TOLD.
MIND YOUR MANNERS.
BE SEEN and NOT HEARD.

Lest we forget the perennial, parental favorite...
Do it BECAUSE I SAID SO.  (This one may actually hold some water, just sayin'.)

Newer versions of the same concept include:

YOU'LL DO IT and YOU'LL LIKE IT.
BE QUIET and DO WHAT'S EXPECTED OF YOU.
DON'T THINK, JUST DO.

And then, of course, there is the infamous Nike tagline...JUST DO IT.

Look, there are many instances when taking or following orders isn't just a nicety, but rather, it's also a necessity. Perhaps your job dictates that you fill someone's request for food or beverages or a teeny bag of pretzels -- or an extra pillow or blanket or more medicine.

Maybe your willingness to obey a command will save lives.

But the bottom line is this: your gut, your heart of hearts, your instinct --that little voice you always hear in your mind, advising your decision-making - well, it'a usually pretty accurate. And, I know you've heard it all before, but it remains as true, relevant and spot on in 2017 as ever:

LET YOUR CONSCIENCE BE YOUR GUIDE.

Blindly following the crowd, especially you if you think they're headed down the wrong path, is so yesterday.

Having the courage to step up and take the lead in the right direction when it's unpopular, unfavorable and maybe even lifts an eyebrow or two? Now, that, my friends, is how it's done.

Shoot...pull a Nike already. #dowhatyouknowisright #WWJD

Lk 1:39-56 ...And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever."

It isn't always wise to take the path of least resistance!
