GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
You may love him or hate him or perhaps you may not have ever even heard of him but one thing is undeniable -- Jimmy Buffett certainly is one very interesting character.
He's the guy standing dead center in the photo at left, FYI.
The singer/songwriter and NY Times bestselling book author is, by his own admission, a mediocre musician. And yet, what an incredibly gifted storyteller he is. Few can evoke mental imagery of tropical beauty and sun-splashed utopia or stir genuine feelings escapism and nirvana with a twist of fanciful fun like Jimmy. He is vacation personified and his music is the soundtrack for summer; the road map for easy, breezy, lazy days of leisure.
Not many people can appeal to such a wide aggregate of folks from every age, race, creed, and walk of life as does Mr. Buffett. Some of his biggest hits, for those of you unfamiliar with the man, are: "Margaritaville," "Come Monday," "Fins," "Volcano," "A Pirate Looks at Forty," "Cheeseburger in Paradise," and "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes." His style has been described as "tropical languor with country funkiness into what some [have] called the Key West sound, or Gulf-and-western." He has referred to it as "drunken Caribbean rock 'n' roll." Personally, I think of his music as calypso country. My fave Buffett tune is arguably "Jolly Mon" the mystical story of a magic dolphin who saves a man from pirates.
I don't believe Jimmy and I share the same view on a great many things (especially politically) but I find him to be a masterful weaver of tales and I respect that. The best thing about this crooner turned mogul (he owns "Margaritaville" themed restaurants, bars and a seemingly endless product line of related stuff) is his overriding message of living in peace and harmony with the other humans. Plain and simple.
Besides, you gotta like a guy (at least a little bit) who says: "People were meant to be as happy as you make them.” So, check him out if you haven't already, and take his advice to embrace life at any age or stage because "Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been." Peace, y'all.

Jn 14:27-31a Jesus said to his disciples: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I . . . but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me."
