In Every Cupboard an Errant Dirty Mug Stands Tall

Have you ever unwittingly put away dirty dishes? Don't lie. Yes, you have.

We all have...just hopefully by accident. Otherwise, ewwwwwwww. Shudder.

Of course, you are particularly susceptible when doing someone the kindness of assuming this task for them, either at their home or in a public place. You know how it goes: you're trying to do your part by unloading the dishwasher and somehow, chaos ensues. Sigh.

Maybe you're the first one up or into the office. Maybe it's on your chore list and someone's giving you an allowance to do that and a few other assorted duties around the casa. Maybe the humans with whom you cohabitate are allergic to the machine that (miraculously!) sanitizes the dishes.

Oh, is that just in my house? Wink.

Either way, every now and again, into each life a little rain must fall. And into each cupboard an errant dirty mug stands tall. Blech.

So, there you are, racking your brain trying to remember exactly what you removed from the belly of the beast and mistakenly set on a shelf as filthy as the second it was loaded.

If you're like me, you wind up removing about 3/4 of what's in the cupboard and about half of what's in any nearby drawer, plus whatever's in that extra oven cubbyhole thingy, too, just to be on the safe side.

Usually takes about 3 loads total. More sighing.

But here's the rub: there are very few blunder blips here on the third rock that are irrecoverable as long as: you're sorry, you do your best to make amends, and you try like the dickens not to do it again.

Oversights and honest mix-ups happen every day here on earth. Less than forthright ones, too, sometimes since we all human and what not. Shoot, there was an entire U.S. Presidency that became synonymous with the phrase "Mistakes were made" -- in fact, MOST U.S. Presidencies could probably hang their hat on that moniker. I digress.

Apologize when you should; forgive as good as you get; and don't beat yourself up ... too much, for too long. Unless you deserve it; only you and the Big Guy know for sure, Capisce? But He's pretty understanding, yo.
