GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
There comes a day in the life of every Mom when she reluctantly acknowledges the fact that it's over.

The moments of literally and even figuratively holding the hand of her child are done. Kaput. Finito. GONE.

And it's a sad, sad, lonely day.

It's not that she'll never again embrace him or give him a hand, it's just that he's grown to the point of being independent for most things ... and she realizes that a big chunk of her work is already done.

Gulp.

She's laid the foundation. Hopefully it is a good, strong and integrity-filled base on which he is now going to do some building of his own. She prays silently that the groundwork she and her soul mate have established as the bedrock for their son was the right size, shape, and fit on which he will construct a happy, healthy and honorable future.

Sniff. Sniff.            Sniff some more.

Then she goes into her room, locks the door and cries that her baby has grown into a young man WAY too fast. And as she's about to listen to "I Hope You Dance" and bawl her eyes out for the 87th time, she gets a text from that boy of hers that reads: "Have a good day, Ma. Love you!"

She smiles and starts to think maybe she and Dad did an okay job, after all. She takes a deep breath and steadies herself as she says to her image in the mirror:

High School Senior Year, here we come...

Ps 25:2-3, 4-5ab, 6 and 7bc, 8-9 R. (1) To you, O Lord, I lift my soul. In you I trust; let me not be put to shame, let not my enemies exult over me. No one who waits for you shall be put to shame; those shall be put to shame who heedlessly break faith. Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths, Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior. Remember that your compassion, O LORD, and your kindness are from of old. In your kindness remember me, because of your goodness, O LORD. Good and upright is the LORD; thus he shows sinners the way. He guides the humble to justice, he teaches the humble his way. Alleluia Jn 11:25a, 26-I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord; whoever believes in me will never die.
