It's what I do." So said fictional columnist Carrie Bradshaw to her girlfriend Miranda Hobbes when the latter asked her why she would punish herself by looking at an article containing photos of her failed wedding in "Vogue" -- on Valentine's Day. I know how Carrie feels. Sigh. Sometimes I sabotage myself by being my own harshest, meanest critic. #StopBeatingYourselfUpPeople So, I thought I'd try to find a lovely inspirational quote to cheer myself and anyone else who does the same...that's when it hit me. I'm a writer. Maybe not as clever or funny as the fake one on SOTC (and I clearly don't have her beauty or fashion sense) but dadgum it, why look to somebody else's words? I mean, I can offer a little somethin' somethin' of cheer and hope, right? #DamnedStraight So, here it goes: Life is like a candelabra. Not all the wicks burn at the same speed. Sometimes it gives off more light and heat than others. There is constant maintenance and oversight required to keep it full and functional. Heck, if a big draft comes along, you may even have to relight the whole darned thing. But, even when the candles are misshapen and don't match and the base is all full of old, hardened wax drippings that you'll never completely erase; it's so incredibly peaceful, beautiful and magical in all its uneven imperfection that you just know you have to keep filling and lighting it. After all, it's toasty sparkle and dancing shadows are a true spectacle - cherish them while you can. #HangInThere #BetterDaysAreAhead #EveryDarknessHoldsSomeLight 2 Tm 4:6-8, 17-18 I, Paul, am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. The Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly Kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen. Alleluia Mt 16:18 R. Alleluia, alleluia. You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
