In fact, last week I happened to catch someone behind me in the grocery store line remark: “Why even have it this year?” Um, what the what? #OneOfTheDumbestThingsIveEverHeard First of all, the 4th is the 4th. Not the 5th. Or the 7th. Or June 30th. And not celebrating Independence Day on July 4th is about as un-American as you can get. I implore you to NOT go there with me. I’m a Patriot and lover of the US of A and the daughter of an Italian immigrant who studied and prayed and worked diligently to become a citizen of what he and so many of the rest of us consider the greatest nation in the world. #Murica Yes, we have our faults. Yes, we have some division. Yes, we don’t all agree on all the issues all the time. Guess what? That’s the genius and glory of America. We all have the privilege and right to think, say and feel however we wish in this beautifully free society. We ain’t perfect, but I still love us, yo. Even the nimrod who wants to cancel the 4th because it’s on a Wednesday this year. #Duh Learn more about my thoughts on the matter this Sunday in my column: 'Murica: Land of the Wednesday Picnic Meet me here and we'll celebrate together, yo. Mt 7:21-29 Jesus said to his disciples: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.’ “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined...”
