This year’s theme honors nurses and midwives. As the daughter of a nurse and a fan of all healthcare workers everywhere, I ask you to please THANK a nurse or midwife for their contributions to humanity … especially in the face of this pandemic. Superman and Wonder Woman have nothing on these champions, okay? Also, to our pals celebrating it, BlessedPassover ... Day One. As usual, I'm here to try and get you to smile -- even amid a cacauphony of COVID-19 communications. I know I can be annoying that way. But it's just that one of my favorite things to do on the third rock is to make the other humans smile. I prefer to catch the live show but for now, virtual's got to do. Sigh. As I told my work peeps a little while ago, I’m just boldly interrupting your day to tell you one thing: WE. GOT. THIS. Sure, there’s lots of negative stuff we could focus on right now – you needn’t look far to find news of gloom…or doom…or both. More sighing. Then again, wallowing in the wah ... and what ifs... that’s the easy way out; and who wants to go down that rabbit hole, right, Alice? Nah, we earth dwellers are tougher than that, yo. So, let me tell you about something that recently happened to a friend of mine who works in the cafeteria of a local health facility. I bet you a soda it puts a smile on your face. Insert wink. My pal was in her work uniform getting gas the other day when the counter clerk deducted $20 from the bill she tallied for a tank of gas and a case of bottled water. Confused, she told him she was under-charged. “No, that young man left me a $20 bill for you. He said to thank you for going into work every day.” She looked out the window to see a 20-something-year-old driving away. Touched, she left some money for the patron in line behind her. Here’s the rub: there’s still good out there, friends. There’s hope and there’s kindness and doggone it, despite what you hear on the news daily, there are young people out there performing wonderful, compassionate acts. I ought to know, I birthed one. Yes, I'm an obnoxiously proud Mom -- but I'm sorry, that kid is exceptional. Either way. Please take heart. Hope, like spring, is still here – and it’s quite beautiful indeed. Plus, there’s no fear of a supply shortage on the horizon. So, if you have an opportunity, share some of this sorta positivity with another human or two (virtually or from the appropriate social distance) until we can truly SEE each other again --and catch those smiles in person, Capisce? Wishing you all safety, health, and happiness. #BlessedPassover #WorldHealthDay #InItTogether #StayStrong #Pray #Peace
