"When Jesus had risen, early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons."
Man, I love this one. After Jesus died and was risen, who did he appear to first? His pal, Mary Magdalene. Legit. I mean, as a Mom, I guess I'd kind of really not minded if he revealed himself to his mother Mary first -- but we know how He made her Queen of Heaven & Earth later. I digress.
What I love about this verse is that Mary was like us: imperfect. She had quite a few chinks in her armor at one point -- stuff that included some seriously questionable behavior. Then again, who are any of us to judge? But here's the thing; no matter what she had done in the past, once she decided that she wanted to do and be better and when she genuinely and consciously made the choice to reject bad and become a force for good; not only did things markedly improve for the gal but she actually won favor with God.
Think you've made a mess of things or flubbed up so badly that it's unrecoverable? HA! Shoot; that's nothing. Mary had us beat, hands down, most likely, and guess what? Christ LOVED her a ton -- and He loves us, too. Bottmon line: it's never too late to straighten out that path. Good deal.
