Don't get me wrong, as an OBSESSED fan of all things "Friends" (especially Jennifer Aniston and OF COURSE I want her to reconcile with Brad), I absolutely positively wanted Rachel and Ross to ultimately end up together. I was thrilled (though not surprised) when she got off the plane. They were destined for coupledom, just like Monica and Chandler. But here's the thing: As much as I love the show and will watch episodes I've already seen eight times a 9th and 10th ... there's that one little issue I have with how the character of Emily was, well, you know, trashed at the end of it all. For those who may not know, Emily was the cute little British chippy Ross married after a whirlwind courtship of like, four days. Rachel naturally struggled with the fact that her lobster (potential soul mate) was locking claws with another...which he did, sorta. As he spoke his vows, Ross accidentally took "Rachel" instead of "Emily". She went through with the wedding but bailed at the reception. She then showed up airport the next day (and after having ignored Ross all night) very, very late ... but in enough time to see him boarding the plane to HER honeymoon destination --with Rachel. When she finally agreed to forgive him and uproot her entire life in England to move to America with Ross, all she asked was that he cut ties with Rachel. And the gang labelled her a controlling, maniacal wingnut who was selfish and unreasonable. So I did, too. And then, I thought about it. If Kerry's ex-girlfriend, for whom he'd pined from afar his entire life, showed up on my wedding day to tell him she loved him and then he said HER name, got ready to take our trip with HER and refused to stop hanging out with HER? Dude, my Italian would be coming at you HARD and FAST. I'd make Emily look like Mother Teresa, Capisce? So, today's lesson? Empathy. Sometimes we really need to put ourselves in someone else's wedding gown before judging them, a'ight? Oh, and one more thing, I don't care if you WERE on a break, Ross - jerk move cheating on Rachel, too. #Empathy #Compassion #Forgiveness #Pray #Peace
