GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
It makes me crazy when I'm watching a live broadcast of something and someone pauses the program and rewinds it. It happens mostly during sporting events and I immensely dislike knowing that I'm missing the next part of the game in real time. This is particularly irksome to me when someone does so while I'm watching a Cavs game.

Other than being torqued off that I'm missing LeBron dunking on KD --  I just hate that icky feeling that I'm missing out on seeing something hugely important AS IT IS HAPPENING.

It's like I'm so busy looking backward that I'm skipping over something really good that's occurring right before my eyes. You know, history in the making.

Life's short. Stop rewinding. Don't be too quick to fast forward, either. Look around at what's going on right here, right now. Otherwise you might just miss your baby taking his first steps ... or your last Christmas with your Nonnna ... or the Cleveland Indians winning the World Series.

Hey, it could happen!

Pay attention. Stop, look and listen to the world around you ... and be an active part of it before the game's over, yo.

Psalm Ps 51:3-4, 5-6ab, 6cd-7, 12-13 R. (see 3a) Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned. Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness; in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me. For I acknowledge my offense; and my sin is before me ... A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. Cast me not off from your presence, and your Holy Spirit take not from me. Gospel Mt 14:22-36 - Jesus made the disciples get into a boat and precede him to the other side of the sea, while he dismissed the crowds (to go off by himself to pray)... meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. "It is a ghost," they said, and they cried out in fear. At once Jesus spoke to them, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid." Peter said to him in reply, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." He said, "Come." Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" After they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, "Truly, you are the Son of God."
