GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Remember when you were a little kid and the JC Penney catalog would come in the mail in early to mid-October?

It was one of the greatest days in the kid year because you'd wait your turn (#youngestmeanslast) at your chance to dogtag the pages with the toys you wanted for Christmas. We'd always scrawl our initials right on top of the photos, just to be safe.

At least, that's how it worked in my house. #happymemories

Anyway, Mom would tell us that it helped keep Santa's list more efficient. And, as we got older, she admitted that she, indeed was Herself the Elf, and wanted to know our preferences.

Sometimes Mom and Pop (who clearly had veto power) would rule out a choice, usually based on a safety issue (think skateboards or BB guns) and sometimes due to overpricing (as in, a $1500 underwater camera or plane and park tickets for a trip to Disney World).

The more times change, the more they don't. I often hear my husband pushing back on some of the objects of my son's greatest desire, like a cell phone that costs $1,000 or concert tickets priced at $350 each. #FYImomusuallysaysyes

What we want isn't always necessarily what's in our best interests -- maybe because it's unsafe or imprudent or just plain "juice that's not worth the squeeze" as my day boss often says.

And other times, we are bowled over with joy when something we thought was only a pipe dream ends up under the tree with our name on it on Christmas morning, Capisce? #youneverknow

Remember, Santa's not the only one who watches and listens and wants to make little boys and girls happy. Mothers and Fathers listen, too...with their ears and hearts. Just like that Big Guy upstairs.

Ps 69:33-35, 36-37 R. (34) The Lord listens to the poor. "See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, may your hearts revive! For the LORD hears the poor, and his own who are in bonds he spurns not. Let the heavens and the earth praise him, the seas and whatever moves in them!" For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. They shall dwell in the land and own it, and the descendants of his servants shall inherit it,and those who love his name shall inhabit it.R. The Lord listens to the poor. Alleluia See Mt 11:25 R. Alleluia, alleluia. Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom. R. Alleluia, alleluia.
