The Whole Truth...Well, Kinda

"Babe, tell the truth..."

Have you ever noticed that, whenever a question is prefaced with this request --- your best bet is usually not to comply?

Think about it, no one ever tacks this condition onto a query about which any old response is welcome.

For instance, no one ever says, "Be honest..." before asking the time or what the weather will be tomorrow or even when --or if there's any hope against hope-- that LeBron will return to Cleveland with Kyrie with in tow.

HINT: The right-hand-to-God answer to the lattermost is the 12th ... of NEVER.

No, we're pretty confident of an answer in the negative form when we beg someone for upfront honesty, aren't we?

Of course we are. 

Hence the "Honey, tell me honestly," before the "Do these jeans make me look fat?" The correct response, gentleman, is NO. Immediately, emphatically, assuredly. Always a HARD and FAST NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's another of those unwritten rules. You know, not unlike these:

-No one ever calls at 3AM with GOOD NEWS. "Wake up, you just won $8M!"

-You'll see exactly ZERO people you know when zipping into the store for a card on your way to a formal event for which you've purchased a new dress and matching shoes, paid to have someone perfect your hair, makeup and nails, and lost those last six pounds to attend. a/k/a Looking your best for no one to see, natch.

-You WILL run into your cousin, your step-uncle, your pastor and his sister, your best friend's neighbor, your boss AND the boy who dumped you in high school for being a 'Plain Jane' the day you dart out for a half-gallon of milk sans makeup, with your unwashed hair tied up in a neon pink Scrunchy from 1987 wearing your husband's old work pants and a stained Wham! sweatshirt-- which are both ripped, BT dubs. a/k/a  Lookin' bad in front of the wide world, yo.

-Some of the humans will hurt you; even the ones you thought you could trust most. #SometimesPeopleStink

-No matter how often and how much the world lets you down, your fam’s got your back. (This includes close friends, of course.) #Fam

-Someone out there, even though you don’t deserve it and for no good reason, will dislike you. #ItsTheirProblemNotYours 

-Someone up there, even though you don’t deserve it and for only good reasons, will love you. #GodIsGood

So – when faced with the dilemma of telling a little white fib that could cheer heart or spilling an ugly truth that could break one; opt for kindness toward that fact checker, okay?

‘Cause those human tickers are pretty fragile. And that’s just my honest opinion, Capisce?
