GRATEFUL GIRL'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
In 1966, songwriter Jimmy Ruffin scored a top 10 Motown hit by asking a simple question: "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted?"

Unfortunately, the song never answers the query; just whines a fair amount and keeps repeating the question. Hmm.

I suppose what really becomes of the brokenhearted depends on many factors including the cause of the despair and the depth, breadth, and source of the support system surrounding the sufferer. Sigh.

Here's what: sometimes heartbreaks disappear quickly, especially if it involves a romantic reversal with a happy ending. Sometimes heartbreaks heal slowly; often when a loss is permanent in terms of this world.

And sometimes, a heartbreak never really mends -- especially if a loss is sudden, deep, bitter or leaves behind a constant reminder. Sniff.

But unlike Jimmy Ruffin; I've got an answer. The best way to try to move past a broken heart is to fill up someone else's. In other words, it does a heart really good, helping another heart.

Look, there may be a heartbreak in your world for which there is no known cure. But dollars to doughnuts, there's likely at least a coping mechanism out there if you look hard enough. One of the most effective is performing your finest figurative open heart surgery on a pal in need. I dare you to try lifting another's spirits and not feel better yourself when you do. #givingfeelsgreat

Besides, somebody up there is holding all of our hearts right in His palm, so s'all good.

Except if you hurt my kid's heart; then all bets are off. Stomp on mine all you want, I can take it -- but mess with my son's heart and I'll hack yours out with a spoon and feed it to the fishes...Capisce?

Ps 34:17-18, 19-20, 21 and 23 - R. (19a) The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. The LORD confronts the evildoers, to destroy remembrance of them from the earth. When the just cry out, the LORD hears them, and from all their distress he rescues them. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves. Many are the troubles of the just man, but out of them all the LORD delivers him. He watches over all his bones; not one of them shall be broken. The LORD redeems the lives of his servants; no one incurs guilt who takes refuge in him. Verse Before the Gospel Mt 4:4b - One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.

Really enjoy your blog. It makes me reflect daily about what is
most important in life. We tend to get caught up in our own
issues and forget about those around us. Thank you Patty!

p.s. 1966 is a great year!
